Short Rambles or Longer Hikes

Well worn by generations of farmers, pilgrims.

The charm of staying at Under the Linden Tree is how effortlessly adventure unfolds. Step further, and the land quietly suggests two paths: to the north, a trail dips toward Loutra’s time-worn stones; to the south, another climbs to Kambos’ sky-touched lanes. Both are short enough for a stolen hour, yet long enough to remind you why Tinos’ landscapes linger in the memory.

Down to Loutra

A leisurely descent along a well-defined trail winds through a landscape that is interspersed with wild vegetation, old oak and olive trees, cultivated fields and terraces, leading to a stone stairway that marks the entrance to Loutra, home to the Jesuit Monastery Ursuline, which in 1862 became a convent school for girls reputed for its high quality in education. A folklore museum, showcases the convent’s history and the lives of the nuns and students, well worth a visit!

Once a resting place for weary travelers, the village still hums with quiet history. We still love to stop for rest and refreshments and Serviam, a quiet cool cafe within the monastery, is just that spot.

For the return, you can retrace your steps back to the farm or, for a change of pace, follow the main road toward Krokos village—where a coffee or meal might tempt you—before rejoining the country road at the Linden signpost. From there, the downward path leads you home, with the farm’s terraces and vineyards rising to greet you.

Up to Kambos

The other way climbs gently to Kampos, a village strung between mountain and sky. Whitewashed houses wear bright blue doors like scraps of daylight, and the cobbled lanes tilt toward views of terraced fields stepping down to the coast. The trail weaves past Cycladic chapels and Tinian dovecotes. On the return walk, the views open up—sweeping downward across Linden Farm, upward to the villages of Loutra and Exomvourgo, and the granite hill that shares this name.

Just enough of a wander to earn a long, lazy lunch, at Xoreutra,  enjoy Tinian delights in a charmed cycladic setting.  As delcious tastes linger so too the scent of Mediteranean herbs  follow you all the way back home.

Both walks are part of a longer circular hike (see links to trail below), on their own, they still offer just the right dose of exploration: short enough for a dawn stroll or twilight wander, yet rich with the quiet magic of Tinos.

For those craving more, the full loop connecting Loutra, Kambos, and beyond awaits…
